I am to draw your attention to the Press communique issued

on 16th. June, 1946, in which it was stated that:-

"In the case of war damaged buildings, applications would be entertained for the remission of the premium which would otherwise have been payable to the extent of one-half of the necessary cost of rehabilitation as certified by an authorized architect.

"Should any war damage compensation subsequently become payable in respect of any premises whereon the premium or any part thereof had been remitted under the foregoing provision, a deduction would be made from the amount of such compensation equivalent to the amount of premium so remitted."

It has been noted that, in several cases, leaseholders have been advised that their applications under the above

provision are now too late for consideration, and it is felt

that this cannot have been the original intention of Government

as, otherwise, some terminal date would have been mentioned

in the communique. In order to encourage rehabilitation of

war damaged property, the retention of this facility, which

is considered to be one of supreme importance, is urged in

the strongest terms.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient servant,

(Sgd) J. KITE.

Secretary.
